The future structure of the Israeli electricity grid
This project is aimed at designing a framework for the comprehensive and efficient planning of an integrated electricity policy for the Israeli grid for the period 2015 to 2050. The framework will allow government and the private sector to jointly decide on investment requirements for activities such as capacity increase, the transmission and distribution of electricity as well as the design of storage units, control algorithms and communication protocols. Issues to be investigated will be, for example, the economics and efficiency of a large number of smaller solar panels on the roofs of buildings versus using a small number of large solar farms in the Negev. Other critical issues are the management of supply and demand as it relates to the active market and reserve capacities, synchronisation with the grid as well as the guarantee of dynamic stability and the optimum management of large energy storage units.
